Tonye is regularly involved in diverse litigation and dispute resolution in various courts and arbitration panels with respect to commercial transactions, banking, immigration, regulatory compliance, taxation, finance and regulation of financial services, employment law, land law, oil and gas, environment, energy and natural resources, shipping and other aspects of law practice in Nigeria. Tonye has led the firm’s team in various negotiations with the firm’s clients and various regulatory and governmental bodies such as the Department of Petroleum Resources and Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. He regularly negotiates on behalf of the firm’s clients in the oil and gas sector of the Nigerian economy with various labour unions including the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN). He was also part of the firm’s team that advised and represented the firm’s client in the acquisition of shares in Eastern Bulkcem Company Nigeria Limited by UMAR SA (a subsidiary of Holderbank SA). He was involved in advising on the strategy for the restructuring of the local cement manufacturing company and its various subsidiaries.
