Richard Vary is a VP at Nokia. He has managed Nokia’s litigation for 10 years, including patent litigation and arbitration against Apple, Samsung, LG, Huawei, Blackberry, Qualcomm and IPCom, and civil litigations including Nokia’s groundbreaking claim against the LCD screens cartel.
In 2015 and 2012 Richard was identified by Managing IP magazine as one of the 50 most influential people in Intellectual Property globally, and in 2013 he was awarded “In-house Lawyer of the Year” by The Lawyer magazine. Nokia’s litigation team has also won several awards during Richard’s time, including “in-house team of the year” by Managing IP, “Best Patent Case” for the Nokia and Interdigital UK case, and “IP Team of the Year 2014” by Leaders League.
Richard has a science degree from Cambridge University. He attended law school in London and worked for Linklaters before joining Nokia. Richard sits part time as a district judge in the UK’s London and South Eastern circuits and the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court.
