Jay Yu is a Partner lawyer in Guantao’s Shanghai office. Before joining Guantao, Jay
worked for Jones Day in its New York office and was a visiting lawyer in Monckton
Chambers in London. Since 2011, Jay has focused his legal practice in intellectual
property rights and competition areas, including IP rights and technology transactions
and licensing, dispute resolution and compliance. He is experienced in supporting
clients negotiating and drafting a range of commercial and technology transactions,
such as software licensing and distribution agreements, user agreements and IP right
licensing agreements. In terms of dispute resolution, He has substantial litigation and
enforcement experience in the PRC, and has successfully advocated in many complex
cases involving software copyrights, trademarks, technology and trade secrets and etc.
One of the trade secret cases represented by him was selected by Shanghai High
People’s Court as a top-ten guiding IP case of 2018. In addition, he has advised
domestic and international clients in compliance investigation and enforcement, setting
up and maintaining compliance programs as well as IP protection strategies.
Mr. Yu received his LL.M. degree with honors from Georgetown University. He has
been admitted to practice law in the P.R.C. since 2011 and in New York State since
2014.
