Dr. Nicolas Celis is a Senior Associate in the ‘climate change, energy & utility’ practice in the Brussels office of Fieldfisher.

He specialises in energy and climate change law, representing private and public clients domestically and internationally. He advises both private market actors (energy suppliers, intermediaries, consumers, etc.) and various regulators and public authorities at the national and international levels with regard to their energy, climate change and ESG issues. In particular, he has an in-depth expertise in assisting clients on legal issues related to renewable energy projects (wind, solar, storage, biogas, etc.), energy efficiency of business processes and drafting and implementing energy legislation, regulation and standards. Nicolas has also been involved in climate change litigation proceedings.

Nicolas holds an LLM on international law and climate change from the University of Edinburgh and has completed a PhD in the area of climate change litigation and human rights. Besides, he has worked as a visiting researcher at Tilburg University and as a representative of Belgium at the United Nations Human Rights Council.

He a regularly acts as a speaker on the subject of climate change law and litigation and is also a guest lecturer in the ‘International law and sustainable development’ masters course at Ghent University.

His mother tongue is Dutch and he is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
