Dr. Gordon Blanke is Founding Partner of Blanke Arbitration LLC, Dubai/London/Paris. Dr. Blanke has wide-ranging experience in all types of international commercial and investment arbitration in both the common and civil law legal systems, having acted as advising counsel and arbitrator under most leading arbitration rules (including ICC, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, DIAC, ADCCAC, LMAA, GAFTA, GCC, JAMS and SCC) and ad hoc in arbitrations seated in the US, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East in relation to a variety of industry sectors, including aviation, the construction and real estate industries, corporate/commercial, oil and gas, information technology, maritime and the banking and finance sectors.
Dr. Blanke speaks regularly on international arbitration and has published over 200 books and articles on the subject, including Comparison of Gulf International Arbitration Rules (Juris 2010), Comparison of MENA International Arbitration Rules (Juris 2011) and Arbitration in the MENA (Juris 2016). He is also the author of Commentary on the UAE Arbitration Chapter (Sweet & Maxwell 2017).
Dr. Blanke was recommended in the 2014 and 2015 editions of The Legal 500 for his work in international arbitration in the UAE and praised as ‘very professional’ in the 2016 edition of that directory. He is also recommended, including for construction arbitration, in The Legal 500 EMEA 2019. Dr. Blanke is listed as a leading arbitration specialist in Who’s Who Legal 2015 and 2016 and has been recognized in GAR’s first four editions of Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration – Future Leaders? 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Dr. Blanke has been admitted as an advocate to the DIFC Courts. He also is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and sits on the editorial board of a number of leading arbitration journals, including in particular Arbitration, the journal of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and is a member of the Expert Board of LexisNexis’s Gulf Legal Advisor.
